You may or may not be aware that GIT has discontinued selling the red/blue EDR tools and now offer replacement EDR tools. Those new EDR tools can be purchased through Crash Data Group here. They may or may not be in stock.
As of Feb. 1st, 2025, all GIT tech support is handled by telephone now. Tech support hours are Monday through Friday, from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm pacific time. The number is 888-549-4977. Press #4 for aftermarket support and then press #1 for technical support.
I have listed some of the important information below along with some frequently asked questions.
- The software update button in my existing software does not work and results in an error. What should I do?
- As of Jan. 7th, 2025 the latest Hyundai version was v65.
- As of Jan. 14th, 2025 the latest Kia version was v62.
- Neither of those two "legacy" software programs will ever be able to be updated.
- You need to contact GIT to get the "new" EDR 2.0 software and install it on your PC. As of April 1st, 2025 there are no updates for the new software but it will eventually be able to be updated.
- Can I use the existing red/blue VCIs with the new software?
- Yes the existing VCIs currently work with the new software.
- The new VCIs look identical to each other, do you still need them both?
- Yes, there is one VCI for each software program.
- I noticed there is still no power port on the VCI for situations when the DLC (data link connector) may not have power. Are you going to sell an EDR tool power cable for the new VCIs?
- We are in the process of designing a new EDR tool power cable. Consequently the EDR tool power cable for the old VCIs is going to be discontinued at some point.
- Can I use my existing GIT power supply with the new VCIs?
- Yes. The new power supply has a different part number and a higher current rating than the old power supply. GIT has indicated they are interchangeable.
- Do I need to use the CFCI (CAN-FD) adapter with the new VCIs?
- No, the new VCIs have the CAN-FD capability built in.
- Why is there only one program shortcut installed even though I have both the Hyundai and Kia software installed on my PC?
- The new software will have you select either HMA for Hyundai or KMA for Kia if both software programs are installed.
- Do I need to buy the new VCI(s)?
- Currently the only reason to buy the new VCI is if you do not already own a Hyundai or Kia EDR tool.
- The new VCI will be necessary at some point to obtain ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) data from supported Hyundai-Kia vehicles.
- This option is not currently available in the GIT software.
- The required cable to collect the ADAS data through the DLC (data link connnector) is not yet available for sale.
- The required cable to collect the ADAS data D2M (direct to module) is not yet available for sale.
